Rotation/ Curvature correction for eddy-viscosity turbulence models

Dear Foamers,

for older OF versions - older than 3.0.0 and approx. 1606+ - several examples exist which help users to modify turbulence models, i.e. adding a curvature correction term. As the turbulence model implementation got a new facelift, this became much more difficult. Would it be possible to provide a little help concerning turbulence model variants? This would really increase the scope of Foam compared to commercial software where several model variants can usually be chosen.

Thanks for your hint first. Unfortunately, I don't really got what you would like to express...?

Documentation has been lacking in this area; however, we have on-going efforts that you may find useful, e.g.:

These pages are still relatively new and will continue to evolve over time as we expand on the current content and add new sections. You can also find an example of adding the turbulence decay control to the k-w SST family of models here

Right - the documentation is really valuable, thanks a lot therefor! This is a good supplement to e.g. cfd-online.com. But the basic question is why some popular variants of the turbulence models, e.g. curvature correction, are not offered by default? I see that Foam cannot provide the whole offer range of commercial codes. And a comprehensible answer is that Foam is a tool users should use to develop own applications, like e.g. variants of turbulence models.

But is this the only reason? And aren't some of the variants proposed at https://turbmodels.larc.nasa.gov/sst.html so popular that the implementation would be worthy?

The model offerings in OpenFOAM have evolved over time based on a combination of our own motivation and requests from users/code sponsors. To date we have not received requests/sponsors to add the curvature correction terms --- but these can certainly be added.
