the problem originates from the interface between the refinement levels. Here there are cells where the faces both get split and additional edges split, i.e. a single edge gets split into 4 edges. This does not seem to be supported in the parallel synchronisation routine.
Attached the wanted cuts in the cells on either side of the processor boundary (so one is from processor0, one is from processor1)
