GitLab now enforces expiry dates on tokens that originally had no set expiration date. Those tokens were given an expiration date of one year later. BUG: string expand swallowing '$(..)' construct

- this regression caused dynamic code with includes to fail since they
  often have -I$(LIB_SRC)/...  content
